From Princess Leia To A Disney Princess?
People.com: She already ruled that galaxy far, far away. But can she be a princess for Disney, too?
That’s what fans are hoping: In the wake of Carrie Fisher‘s death, a petition has been launched to officially make the actress’ most famous onscreen character, Princess Leia, a Disney princess.
Disney owns Lucasfilm, the company behind the Star Wars juggernaut, and the petition states its case for the bid, saying: “After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.”
It adds: “What we are asking is that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess as well as a special service in memory of Carrie Fisher.”
The petition has now garnered over 55,000 supporters,
