Claire Foy to Star in a Crime Series ‘Marlow’
Hollywoodreporter.com: Claire Foy is set to take the lead in Marlow, a new crime thriller series commissioned by BritBox U.K., the streaming service launched by the BBC and ITV.
From Motive Pictures and Endeavor Content, the eight-episode series will focus on two warring families that have lived on the “Edgelands” of the U.K.’s Thames Estuary for centuries – facing off across the water in this land of smugglers, mudlarks, entrepreneurs and opportunists.
Foy – best known for her Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG-winning performances in The Crown – will play a woman seeking answers and revenge, who is drawn back into conflict with the ageing patriarch from one of the families.
The series, which is due to go into production in Autumn, has been created by BAFTA-winning screenwriter Tony Grisoni (Southcliffe, Red Riding) and Simon Maxwell (Deep
State), who will both serve as executive producers along with Claire Foy.
“I’m delighted to be a part of this compelling thriller,” said Foy. “Tony and Simon’s scripts are so evocative of place and redolent with atmosphere – and the twists, turns and mysteries at the heart of this drama are utterly gripping.”
Motive Pictures was established in 2019 by CEO Simon Maxwell, who was previously head of international drama at Channel 4, with Endeavor coming on board as lead financier and strategic partner.
“The Thames Estuary’s Edgelands offer a unique and extraordinary world of mud, sea and infinite sky; of broken politics and dreams – the Thames mouth is at once a gateway to the world and the last wild frontier of our island existence,” said Maxwell and Grisoni. “Marlow is a uniquely homegrown saga, a character driven crime epic about where we’ve come from; who we are now; what we might become.”
Last year, it was announced that Motive Pictures was teaming with Narrativia, the company set up by the late Terry Pratchett, to adapt his much-loved Discworld series of novels for TV.
