Dubai World Cup 2016
The biggest sporting and social occasion on the Dubai calendar, the US$30m Dubai World Cup day is held at Meydan Racecourse on the last Saturday in March every year.
The conclusion of the UAE racing season, Dubai World Cup day features nine high-class races including six Group 1 races and three Group 2 contests. The event is brought to a spectacular close by the world’s richest horse race, the $10m Dubai World Cup, won in 2015 by HE Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Prince Bishop.
Festivities on Dubai World Cup day end with the magnificent Dubai World Cup show and concert.
Horseracing began in the Emirate in October 1981, when the dusty Camel Track hosted the first thoroughbred racemeeting. Three races were run - a sprint, a mile and a mile and a half, organised by the office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
