Mohammed Ali: Then and Now
This star-studded extravaganza is a tribute to Mohammed Ali's colorful, history-making career.
This well-paced production opens with Dustin Hoffman, who introduces superstar, Whitney Houston, who sings a song of dedication to Ali, "Greatest Love Of All" which sets the theme for the rest of the evening.
There are quite a few highlights to this event as well as many clips of Ali's fights throughout the show. Jazz legend, EI)a Fitzgerald, sang as only Ella can. His daughter, May-May Ali raps about her famous father's life. Ali's evening wouldn't be complete without the playful verbal bout with legendary sports announcer, Howard Cosell. Though Cosell was too fragile to attend the gala, he beamed, via tape, a touching message to Ali that was both personal and emotional
for both great men of sports.
"Ali is one of those rare American athletes who transcended the sport to become pop-culture icons; this type of tribute-usually reserved for film stars or entertainers is a testament to his
world-wide appeal."
