Arnold Schwarzenegger's Spy Series Heads To Netflix

Variety.com: Arnold Schwarzenegger is making his grand entrance into television with an untitled global espionage adventure project ordered to series by Netflix. The streamer announced today that the spy series, hailing from Skydance Television and Nick Santora (“Scorpion”) will star the Austrian-American and “The Good Cop’s” Monica Barbaro.

Per the logline, the show centers on a father and a daughter who learn that they’ve been secretly working as CIA Operatives for years. They realize that their entire relationship has been a lie and that they truly don’t know one another at all. Forced to team up as partners, the Untitled Arnold Schwarzenneger Project tackles universal family dynamics set against an international backdrop of spies, fantastic action and humor.

“Fans from all over the world have been asking me for a wild ride like this for years, and now they’re finally going to get it because of our great partners at Skydance and Netflix. I am beyond pumped to start work on the show with Nick and Monica and the whole team,” the former Republican governor of California and since-retired bodybuilder said in a statement announcing the series order.

The hourlong drama, which consists of eight episodes, was created and executive produced by Santora (“Jack Reacher,” “The Fugitive”) who also serves as showrunner. He developed the original idea as part of his overall deal with Skydance Television. The spy series was set up for development at Netflix last November.

Executive producing alongside Santora are David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Bill Bost for Skydance, as well as Schwarzenegger. Skydance Television has a long-standing relationship with the multiple Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia title winner through films such as “Terminator Genisys” and “Terminator: Dark Fate.” Schwarzenegger is one of the most iconic action stars of all time, having starred in blockbusters such as “True Lies,” “Total Recall” and “Eraser,” as well as in comedic roles, leading films like “Twins,” “Kindergarten Cop” and “Junior.”

Barbaro is set to star in the upcoming “Top Gun” sequel opposite Tom Cruise, which was recently delayed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her past TV credits include Stumptown” and “Splitting Up Together,” as well as Netflix’s “The Good Cop,” Lifetime’s “UnREAL,” and NBC’s “Chicago P.D.”
