Vin Diesel Gets Choked Up While Accepting ‘Favorite Movie’ For ‘Furious 7’ At People’s Choice Award

While Vin Diesel is typically associated with high-octane action, the actor’s softer side was on full display as he accepted the “Favorite Movie” award for Furious 7 at this year’s People’s Choice Awards.

Diesel, who has become synonymous with the immensely popular franchise for his portrayal of Dominic Toretto, began his emotional acceptance speech by complimenting his co-stars.

“We have the best cast in the world,” Diesel said. “Universal has been so supportive. They asked me to be a producer 10 years ago, and they’ve supported me all along as I kinda crazily told them we could get to Fast 10 with our cast and with a true story and with integrity and with a multi-cultural theme and a multi-cultural family.” It was at this point in his acceptance speech that Diesel became noticeably affected by the emotional significance of the moment.

“You know as I was coming up here, I always do this, I said I’m not gonna get emotional about winning these awards. And I was cool while I was sitting in my seat, and then they handed me two awards: one for favorite action movie and one for favorite film. You all thought that this was your favorite film,” the Furious 7 star said. “So I think of Dom and Brian, and I start to think of Paul,” Diesel continued as the crowd applauded in honor of the late Paul Walker. “My only message to you is you’d be amazed at what you can do with love. You’d be amazed at how powerful a force that is. When we didn’t want to come back to filming when the tragedy was too heavy, it was the love of everyone combined that saw us through to the end, and now I’m standing here with all of you telling me this was your favorite film of the year. I wanna thank the People’s Choice Awards. It’s real people that are voting for these award. It’s just pure fans saying how much they appreciate our work and that means the world to me. And I thank you so much, and the only thing I can say now is…”

At this point, Diesel began singing the Furious 7 anthem, “See You Again,” as a tribute to his fallen friend.

“It’s been a long day without you my friend. And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again.”
